Paul J. Kreuzkamp, Jr., was born in New York City. Before reaching 41 years of age, he tragically died from complications related to colon cancer. Paul grew up in Ramsey, NJ, where he attended St. Paul’s Elementary School and Don Bosco College Preparatory High School. He continued his higher education at the University of Notre Dame and after two successful years of study under the “Golden Dome,” made the life decision to change course and pursue his calling to the field of law enforcement. Two years after transferring from Notre Dame to John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City, Paul graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Police Science. Later in his career he went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Allied Legal Services from the University of Central Florida (UCF); a Master of Science Degree in Management and Public Administration from Florida International University (FIU); and a Juris Doctor Degree from the Florida State University (FSU) School of Law. He was also a 1978 graduate of the FBI National Academy, Class Number 114.

Paul possessed an extensive law enforcement background. He was a Police Dispatcher in Franklin Lakes, NJ and a Police Officer in Allendale, NJ. After graduating from John Jay College, he married Joan, his hometown sweetheart, and they moved to south Florida where Paul served as a Police Officer, Sergeant and Acting Chief in Cooper City (Broward County) and later as a Police Officer and Detective with the Metropolitan Dade County Public Safety Department. After Metro Dade, Paul and Joan moved their family north to the beachside town of Indialantic, where he served as Chief of Police and later became Chief of Police in Palm Bay, where he also became a state certified Volunteer Firefighter. Throughout his challenging and very fast-paced career, he found time to remain active in academic circles as well. He was an Adjunct Instructor of Criminal Justice at Brevard Community College (BCC) and a Primary Instructor at the BCC Law Enforcement Academy. The way Paul lived his life testified to his firm belief in the tenet that professional law enforcement officers must be well educated practitioners of the law.

After graduating from FSU Law School and immediately passing the Florida Bar Exam, he returned to Brevard County as the Staff Legal Advisor to the Brevard County Sheriff. After completing his duties with the sheriff’s office, he entered the private practice of law in Melbourne until his untimely death. Paul also served our country in the military when he took his law enforcement expertise to the littoral seas as a Lieutenant, Port Security Specialist, in the United States Coast Guard Reserve at Port Canaveral.

Beginning in grammar school and continuing throughout his broad-ranging career, he received numerous awards and accolades for his keen intellect, professionalism, selfless dedication to duty and citizenship. He served as the President of the Brevard County Association of Chiefs of Police and was a member of the Florida Bar Association.

Paul’s children, Douglas and Susan, in the all-too-few years he shared with them, also learned from both he and Joan what intellect, hard work, and dedication can empower one to achieve. Douglas graduated, with honors, from FSU and went on to earn a Juris Doctor Degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Law. He is the founder of Springshot, a software collaboration company focused on the optimization of the mobile team services industry. Doug and his family reside in the San Francisco area. Susan also graduated from FSU and earned a Juris Doctor Degree from the Georgia State University School of Law in Atlanta. She currently serves as the Chief Assistant District Attorney in Cherokee County, Georgia, where she and her family reside.
